| ON the SAFE SIDE (OtSS) is a voluntary agency based in East London. It aims to enable people’s access to the community particularly women and young people. OtSS does this by addressing anxieties about and experiences of crime and anti-social behaviour.
It was set up as part of another local agency to provide a safe evening lift service for women living and travelling in Newham. By the end of the 1990s an independent organisation was established in its own right. Since then it’s own policy documents and administration systems have grown organically. The organisation is set up as a charity and registered company and overseeing it’s work and in particular it’s strategic direction is a Management Committee who meet regularly. |
